Fred and Arlene Post have operated MH Kitchen Cabinets Ltd. for nearly 30 years. Fred is the artisan. He designs, constructs and installs. Arlene co-ordinates and attends to the business side.
Why MH? It stands for Mother Hen. A manager at Merit Kitchens, while tending to one of Fred’s orders, noticed the attention to detail. “This must be for Mother Hen,” he said. That stuck. Fred’s the mother hen, fussing over each project as if it were his baby, knowing that its well-being depends on him.
A few years ago they downsized and moved both their shop and showroom into their home. Their service has always been based on close personal relationships. Now, that’s even closer. Clients sit and chat in their front office. They love the flexibility and informality; so do clients.
What do they do? Specializing in renovations, they deal with residential and commercial cabinets, countertops, storage areas and vanities. These are primarily found in kitchens, washrooms and laundry rooms, but they can be built anywhere they’re needed. They can do expensive, high-end work; they can also make a good-quality, economical project look great.
Want to see a project that they’re especially proud of? Check out Wasabiya Japanese Sushi Café in Merecroft Village, Campbell River. Fred designed and built the countertops, the sushi bar and the tables. The restaurant looks sharp and uses its space beautifully.
